The HVAC Intern supports HVAC field operations by assisting with approved general labor, material handling, job site organization, and other non-hazardous tasks while gaining experience and exposure to the HVAC industry and skilled trades. The team member will work under direct adult supervision and may only perform duties permitted under applicable federal and Michigan youth employment laws and Company safety requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist HVAC technicians and installers with approved general labor and helper duties under direct supervision.
- Assist with staging, organizing, moving, loading, and unloading approved materials, tools, and supplies.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and assist with general job site cleanup.
- Assist with retrieving and organizing tools and materials as directed by the supervisor.
- Perform approved, non-hazardous tasks associated with HVAC installation and field operations.
- Observe and learn about HVAC installation, service, and construction processes through supervised job-site exposure.
- Follow all Company safety policies, procedures, and instructions and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Complete required safety training, including OSHA 10, and participate in job-specific safety meetings and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Comply with all applicable federal and Michigan youth employment laws, Company policies, safety procedures, and supervisor instructions.

The team member may not perform electrical work, work on or near energized electrical systems, brazing, welding, soldering, refrigerant handling, or other potentially hazardous HVAC tasks unless the specific task has been reviewed and approved in advance by HR and Safety as legally permissible for the team member’s age..
The team member must receive approval from the supervisor before performing any task outside the duties specifically identified in this job description and may not work independently or without required adult supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must obtain and maintain a required Michigan minor work permit prior to beginning employment, unless legally exempt.
- Must comply with all applicable Michigan school attendance and youth employment requirements.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively under direct adult supervision.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn and interest in the HVAC industry and skilled trades.
- Ability to follow safety policies and procedures and properly use required PPE.
- Must successfully complete required safety training, including OSHA 10, and participate in required JSA reviews.
- No driver's license is required, as driving is not an essential function and the team member is prohibited from driving for work-related purposes.
- Must maintain reliable attendance consistent with the team member's legally permitted work schedule.
