Job description

HVAC Control Technician Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Control Technician to install, troubleshoot, program, commission, and service HVAC control systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This position is focused on building automation, HVAC controls, and control system integration in commercial and industrial environments. Candidates must have demonstrated commercial and/or industrial HVAC controls experience. Residential-only HVAC experience does not meet the requirements for this position and will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, wire, terminate, troubleshoot, and service HVAC control systems in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues involving HVAC equipment and control systems.
  • Install and troubleshoot sensors, actuators, relays, controllers, thermostats, VFDs, dampers, valves, and other control components.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and HVAC plans.
  • Perform point-to-point checkout and system commissioning.
  • Configure and program HVAC controllers and building automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot communication networks and control system issues.
  • Interface HVAC controls with building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems, and other facility systems.
  • Start up and commission HVAC control systems and verify proper operation.
  • Identify control sequences that are not operating correctly and make necessary adjustments.
  • Work with electricians, HVAC technicians, engineers, project managers, and customers to complete projects.
  • Assist with system integration and troubleshooting across multiple equipment manufacturers and control platforms.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, service, and upgrades to existing control systems.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, system changes, commissioning results, and completed work.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment
  • Travel to commercial and industrial customer sites as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven commercial and/or industrial HVAC controls experience is required.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, or commissioning commercial/industrial HVAC control systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC control systems and sequences of operation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage control wiring and electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems systematically using electrical and diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, VFDs, relays, controllers, valves, dampers, and related HVAC control components.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work with controls software and building automation systems.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Follow all Safety mandates- required PPE at all times (Hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and gloves)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, industrial environments, and other commercial facilities.
  • Ability to safely lift equipment and materials and work from ladders or lifts when required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Experience with DDC (Direct Digital Control) systems.
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus, or other building automation communication protocols.
  • Experience programming or commissioning HVAC controllers.
  • Experience with VFDs and motor controls.
  • Experience integrating HVAC controls with other building or industrial systems.
  • Experience with major controls platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider Electric, Automated Logic, Distech, or similar systems.
  • Electrical, HVAC, controls, or automation training/certification.
  • Experience working on large commercial buildings, manufacturing facilities, data centers, healthcare facilities, schools, or other industrial/commercial environments.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on commercial/industrial HVAC controls professional who can walk into a job site, understand the control system, troubleshoot problems, and get the equipment operating properly. You should be comfortable working with both the HVAC equipment and the control system that operates it. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, safety-minded and the ability to understand control sequences are critical to success in this role.

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to work on active commercial and industrial job sites.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts when necessary.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, warehouses, manufacturing environments, and other industrial settings.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials.
  • May require occasional overtime, weekend work, or travel based on project requirements.
