Job description

Congressional School is seeking an experienced, English Hunter/Jumper trainer to join our team on a seasonal, part-time basis. This is a great opportunity for a rider who wants to continue training and competing while getting paid to ride and teach. The role centers on private, one-on-one lessons with our students, with occasional opportunities to assist as a second trainer during group lessons.
The Equine Instructors also create a warm, nurturing and inclusive environment where each child is known and valued. Hours are traditionally Monday-Friday, 3:15 pm to 6:15 pm which occasional morning hours. The position reports to the Equine Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach 1:1 private lessons to Congressional students in the English Hunter/Jumper discipline.
  • Assist the lead trainer during group lessons as needed.
  • Ride and condition academy horses as part of assigned training hours.
  • Uphold safety standards for horses, students, and facilities at all times.
  • Communicate professionally with the Equine Director and academy staff regarding student progress and horse care.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive teaching environment appropriate for young riders.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced personal riding ability in the English Hunter/Jumper seat.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching riding lessons, ideally to youth or school-age students.
  • Strong horsemanship and a calm, safety-first approach in and out of the ring.
  • Able to lift 50lbs+
  • Reliable, flexible availability during weekday hours across the Fall, Spring, and Summer seasons.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Concussion Certification required (a 2-hour certification course can be completed after hire).
  • Excellent communication skills
