Humanoid Robotics involves designing and building humanoid robots, requiring knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering. Robot Software Engineers focus on developing the software that controls robotic systems, emphasizing programming skills. While both roles work within the robotics industry, Humanoid Robotics is more hardware-oriented, whereas Robot Software Engineering centers on software development. Both roles often collaborate but serve different aspects of robotics projects.

What jobs will humanoid robots do?

Humanoid robots are increasingly used in roles such as customer service, healthcare assistance, hospitality, and retail support. They perform tasks like greeting customers, providing information, and assisting with basic service functions, often requiring programming skills and familiarity with robotics systems.

Job description

Robotics Engineer, Perception and Vision

San Francisco | On site | $150,000 to $230,000 base

We need someone who has built perception that survives contact with the real world.

Working with a humanoid robotics company in San Francisco who are hiring a Perception and Vision Engineer to own how their robot sees. That means the full stack, from sensors through to the representations the rest of the system depends on, running on the robot in real time rather than offline on a workstation.

What you would be doing

  • Building perception systems across RGB, depth and inertial data
  • Working on 3D scene understanding, object detection and pose estimation
  • Optimising models to run on embedded compute inside real time budgets
  • Handling calibration, synchronisation and everything else that goes wrong when a camera is bolted to something that moves
  • Reporting directly to the founders while collaberating with a larger team

What we need to see

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience with perception deployed on physical robots. Not offline benchmarks, not simulation only
  • Strong Python and C++
  • Real experience with sensor fusion across multiple modalities
  • Depth in 3D geometry, whether that is reconstruction, point clouds or newer representations
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate. This role is on site
  • Must be a US citizen or green card holder. This client is not able to sponsor or transfer visas

Why this one is different

The gap between perception that scores well and perception that works on a moving robot is where most of the interesting problems live. That gap is the job.
