Position Description
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding. Assistant Professors, without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding, hold multi-year appointments with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors, without tenure (WOT) due to source of funding, hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. We are currently recruiting for a full-time physician specializing in corneal disease. This position will be based at Harborview Medical Center. Anticipated start date is October/November 2026.
The 1.0 FTE base salary for this position will be Assistant Professor MD (WOT) $18,334 to $21,667 per month ($220,008-$260,004 annually) or Associate Professor MD (WOT) $21,667 to $24,167 per month ($260,004 to $290,004 annually) or Professor MD (WOT) $24,167 to $26,667 per month ($290,004 - $320,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Responsibilities include clinical care, resident and fellow supervision and training including both medical and surgical training and teaching of medical students.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide medical and surgical cornea care, including treatment of consult and emergency patients and surgery at the University of Washington affiliated sites or practice which include Harborview Medical Center, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and the UW Medical Centers.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
Qualifications
Candidates must have an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and have completed ophthalmology residency (or foreign equivalent) and one or more years of postgraduate training in the management of corneal disease and surgery.
A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research in ophthalmology is required. Applicants must be American Board of Ophthalmology-certified (or foreign equivalent) or Board Eligible and eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
