Job description

Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Blue Origin is developing the next generation launch and space vehicle manufacturing facility on Florida’s Space Coast at our Orbital Launch Site Manufacturing Complex. We are in search of a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Payload Accommodations. You will work with innovative processes for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of manufacturing engineering. Day to day responsibilities will include the Manufacturing Plan Development, managing all Work Order Authoring, and provide Mentoring and Career Path Development to your enrolled employees. We put a strong emphasis on design for manufacturing and hands‑on technical ability, as our managers are directly involved with design, analysis, equipment operation, trouble‑shooting, and active engagement with engineering. Shifts available: This position is for First Shift (M-F 7:30am-4:00pm). This position is on‑site and factory facing. Must be able to work in areas of high activities and noise, work at heights, and confined spaces

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
  • Enable the success of a team comprised of high‑impact Manufacturing Engineers
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and support with engineers to develop goals, career paths, and ensure professional development
  • Establish roles, responsibilities, and accountability for all team members
  • Ensure workflow and priorities are balanced across the team
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and grow the team by recruiting and hiring top performing manufacturing engineers (as needed)
  • Coordinate and work closely with program managers, operations leaders, and Integrated Product Team Leads to meet design, build, and test objectives.
  • Support the team in applying robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and processes in support of fabrication processes
  • Create required data gathering tools for tracking and improving the team performance
  • Review and understand companywide processes and command media to ensure proper compliance
  • Help your team define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight
  • Promote DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
  • Engage in Manufacturing Bill of Material (BOM) creation and maintenance and Product Structure definition
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university (Master of Science preferred)
  • Experience managing people, projects, or programs
  • Strong coordination, personnel, and project management skills
  • Experience working with the fabrication and integration of composites parts
  • Experience in hardware manufacturing (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non‑destructive testing methods, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software)
  • Proven experience and successful track record of developing new manufacturing processes and continuously improving existing processes
  • Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
  • Understanding of entire product lifecycle management
  • 7+ years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience
  • Proficiency in engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with FAA CFR’s, industry methodologies, OSHA requirements
  • Experience developing, writing, and updating operating procedures
  • Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, MSG-3, 5-S, FMEA, PRA, and lean process awareness
  • Certification and/or training in various human factor / human performance skills
  • Experience in new, startup, or ambiguous operational environments
  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (i.e. MSOffice, Windchill, PLM, etc)
  • Experience with critical operations where real‑time decision‑making affects success
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven track record driving sophisticated projects with minimal guidance

Paid Time Off

Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company‑paid holidays.
