Job description

Connect to a career at City Utilities! CU has been connecting our community to the services they need for every day life since 1945. From electricity to power our lives, clean water to be healthy, natural gas to stay warm, internet to keep businesses connected, to transit services to get them where they need to go.
This position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
INTERN GUIDELINES:
Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student's intern position will end within three months after graduation.
Pay Details:
$16.00-20.00/hour

Job Description:
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Manager-Human Resources, provides technical and clerical support and assists in recruitment functions including greeting and screening applicants, scheduling interviews, processing documents related to applicant flow and selection processes, and entering recruiting information into the HCM system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Greets applicants for recruitment. Assists applicants with completing applications online as necessary.
2. Answers telephones, directs inquiries, and provides information as needed. May answer telephones for other areas within the HR Department as needed.
3. Enters and maintains recruitment-related information into the applicant tracking system and other HCM systems.
4. Schedules appointments for pre-hire screening.
5. Reconciles monthly expenses and forwards to Accounts Payable.
6. Assists with advertising in websites, newspapers and periodicals. Logs and prepares documents to track expenses and results of advertising efforts.
7. Assists with job postings, applicant lists, maintenance of website, and recruitment emails.
8. Assists with screening applicants for required qualifications for open positions.
9. Assists in scheduling and administering pre-employment testing of potential candidates.
10. Contacts internal and external candidates to make arrangements for interviews as required. Makes hotel and travel arrangements for out-of-town candidates and ensures proper documents are prepared.
11. Assists with conducting reference checks on potential candidates for recruitment, including but not limited to: employment history, criminal conviction history, education credential verification, etc. These investigations must be conducted in a professional, confidential manner, in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
12. Prepares a variety of confidential correspondence, reports, memorandums, documents, charts, and maintains confidential departmental files and records as assigned.
13. Files and maintains electronic files as required.
14. May assist with employment verifications.
15. May represent City Utilities at job fairs to promote and create awareness of Utility job opportunities.
16. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by Human Resources staff and management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
A minimum completion of one year of college is required. Student must be pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Communication, Management, or related field is required. Six months' experience in a general office or business environment is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software computer systems.
  • Ability to:
    • Learn specific computer programs (Concur, Workday, etc.).
    • Handle sensitive information in a highly confidential manner.
    • Show attention to detail and review work for accuracy.
    • Work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
    • Work courteously with customers and coworkers.
    • Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer-focused and have excellent communication skills.
  • Project a positive image of the Utility to the public.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies.

Physical Requirements:
Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer. Bending and stooping may be required for filing and file retrieval.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
  • New hires are informed of the requirements of the Internship Program upon hire, and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment. Interns who do not meet the requirements may be ineligible for the internship and their employment may be terminated.
  • Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
