Your Opportunity, Your Team

  • We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineering Manager to lead our middleware platform engineering team. You will combine technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and strategic platform development to build and evolve our enterprise middleware infrastructure. You'll architect and implement middleware platforms including API management, message queuing, service mesh, and integration solutions while leading a distributed team. You will report to our Director, DevOps.

Where You'll Work

  • This role is hybrid and will require you to be onsite at our headquarters in West Chester, PA six days per month (onsite days are predetermined and standard across the company). Job seekers must reside in one of the following states to be considered: DE, NJ, PA. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Design and architect scalable, highly available middleware platform solutions across NGINX, API Management (APIM), Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, MuleSoft, Azure Service Bus, and related technologies
  • Design and implement network architectures including internal/external load balancers (ALB, NLB, Azure Load Balancer, NGINX Plus), service mesh configurations, and traffic routing strategies
  • Build reference architectures and design patterns for middleware integration across the enterprise
  • Drive platform evolution from legacy systems to cloud-native, container-based architectures
  • Lead incident response for platform-level issues and drive root cause analysis to prevent recurrence
  • Write production-grade code in Python, Go, or similar languages for platform automation, tooling, and integrations
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or ARM templates to provision and manage middleware infrastructure
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for middleware platform deployments and configuration management
  • Build monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions for middleware platforms using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or Azure Monitor
  • Implement security best practices including network segmentation, firewall rules, API gateway security policies, and certificate management
  • Define and track SLOs/SLIs for middleware platforms and drive reliability improvements
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including runbooks, architecture diagrams, and API specifications

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with at least 4 of the following middleware platforms:
    • API Management: NGINX, Kong, Apigee, Azure APIM, AWS API Gateway
    • Message Queuing: Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Azure Service Bus, AWS SQS/SNS
    • Integration Platforms: MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, Apache Camel
    • Service Mesh: Istio, Linkerd, Consul
  • Programming skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages with the ability to write production code
  • Expert-level knowledge of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
  • Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, SSL/TLS, HTTP/HTTPS protocols
  • Experience with load balancers: NGINX Plus, HAProxy, F5, Azure Load Balancer, AWS ALB/NLB
  • Proficiency with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure (preferably), AWS, or GCP) and hybrid cloud architectures
