Job description

HSL Filler Operator

The HSL Filler Operator's primary responsibility is to monitor and test product as it is being filled to ensure product meets all specifications as required. The Filler Operator will also monitor the product as it moves through the Filler machine, ensuring continuous and efficient production that meets customer specifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the machines that steam, inject sauce into pouches, and caps the individual product containers.
  • Monitors the pump machines that fills the machine tanks with sauce, and communicate with the Mixer Operator regarding the sauce product flow.
  • Monitors & activates conveyors that moves pouches through the filler and down the conveyor, including communicating to Mixer, maintenance and supervisor as needed regarding production issues.
  • Constantly monitor pouch and cap levels in the filler machine as necessary for continuous, efficient and smooth filler machine operation according to specifications.
  • Control the Lot number usage and recording information
  • Perform tests to ensure target weights, temperatures and Brix standards are achieved according to specifications as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Accurately record and document all testing as required by SOP's.
  • Constantly monitor for foreign material risks as the cups are moved down the conveyor.
  • Constantly monitor for leaking or damaged product containers as they move out of the filler and down the conveyor.
  • May remove, discard, and record tallies of damaged or inadequate cup materials.
  • Ensures continuous, efficient and smooth filler machine operation.
  • Have a general understanding of the various pumps, meters, valves, and any other equipment used in the filling process.
  • Log run and down times, as well as reasons, for audit purposes.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area around the filler area.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Other duties, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic reading, writing & literacy required
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times in the Production Area.
  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of management and maintenance.
  • Must be able to understand and operate the filler equipment machinery in a safe and productive manner, according to SOP's.

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Filler Operator is required to work on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the associate frequently will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat and/or cold. The associate continuously works near moving mechanical parts. The associate will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms; see, talk and/or hear. The associate will be required to lift, twist, climb, bend, stoop and crouch. The associate is required to stand for up to an 8 hour period (with breaks). The associate will regularly need to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
