Job description

Overview
This position is based at our Virginia Beach, VA campus location.
Good Faith Pay Range: In accordance with Virginia law, the good-faith hourly pay range for this position is $23.00 - 24.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, skills, and other legitimate business factors.
Position Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Administrator serves as the first point of contact for employees and managers, providing Tier 1 support for a wide range of HR-related inquiries. This role delivers high-quality customer service by responding to basic HR questions, interpreting standard policies and procedures, and supporting core HR processes including hiring and onboarding. The HR Administrator also assists with HR projects and ensures accurate and timely processing of employee information.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee and manager HR inquiries, providing Tier 1 support and resolving routine questions or escalating as appropriate.
  • Provide guidance on basic HR policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring consistent and accurate communication.
  • Support full-cycle hiring and onboarding processes, including coordinating pre-employment activities and new hire orientation.
  • Initiate and track background checks and pre-employment requirements.
  • Complete Form I-9 verification and ensure compliance with employment eligibility requirements.
  • Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of data.
  • Assist with employee data audits and ensure compliance with recordkeeping standards.
  • Submit required new hire reporting in compliance with government regulations.
  • Provide administrative support for HR programs and initiatives, including assisting with ongoing HR projects.
  • Collaborate with internal HR team members to ensure seamless service delivery within a shared services model.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and employee experience at the Tier 1 level.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of HR support experience, preferably in a shared services environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to handle inquiries professionally and efficiently.
  • Clear understanding of basic HR principles, policies, and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., UKG/Ultimate Software or similar systems) preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
