We have an exciting opportunity for a HPC Linux System Administrator to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.
If selected you will:
  • The FSL is one of JSC's primary compute labs and hosts a wide variety of analyses, which support all human-spaceflight programs at NASA including the International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Space Launch System (SLS), Commercial Crew Program, Human Landing System (HLS), Moon Base and many others. The FSL systems are currently comprised of over 700 machines, 26,000 cores and over 10 PB of storage, which serve more than 1000 users.
  • In this position you will be working with a team of HPC System Administrators to build and maintain all FSL services. This will include High Performance Compute (HPC) administration, high-end Linux workstation administration, high-speed networking, High-speed parallel filesystem administration, and more.
  • Some of the skillset we are looking for this position is a deep understanding of container technologies and how best they can be used in a High Performance Compute (HPC) environment.
  • The FSL System Administration Team is critical in supporting the FSL users in effectively utilizing the systems. The team's day to day tasks include investigating system problems, proactively monitoring system health, and working with FSL users to make sure they can support the NASA human spaceflight mission.

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in a related area and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience in the following areas is needed for this position:
    • Linux system administration
    • System configuration management
    • Container Based HPC Workflows
    • Complex CI/CD Workflows
    • HPC job scheduler administration
  • Demonstrated problem solving, planning, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience with large-scale system administration, with 2 of those years in HPC administration.

    • RedHat-based systems
    • Container Technology like Docker, Podman, and Apptainer
    • Luster High-speed Parallel Filesystems
    • InfiniBand
    • Ansible / Foreman
