Job description
The Assistant Housing Operations Coordinator/Residence Hall Director is a 12-month live-in position that reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The essential duties include support of room selection and assignment processes, assisting with summer resident housing, promoting housing services, and facilitating the daily operations of an on-campus residence hall. The Assistant Housing Operations Coordinator/Residence Hall Director is responsible for a residence hall with 50-100 beds, as well as serving in an administrative capacity within the Office of Housing and Residence Life.Â
Qualification: Associate's degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Education, Business Administration/Management, Information Systems, etc.). Â
Preferred Qualifications:Â Â
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Â
- Minimum 2 years of experience in housing operations, student services/affairs, or related administrative student support roles. Â
- Experience in housing management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Â
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Â
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Â
- Familiarity with FERPA and other student data privacy regulations.Â
- Knowledge of higher education housing operations and student services.Â
Roles, Duties, and Responsibilities:Â
The Assistant Housing Operations Coordinator/Residence Hall Director will work directly with the Director of Housing and Residence Life and the Housing Operations Coordinator. This position is responsible for administrative duties associated with assisting in the residential assignment process, Student Code of Conduct adjudication, and support for daily Housing and Residence Life operations.Â
Housing Assignments, Administrative, and Secretarial Support
- Assist Housing Operations Coordinator with the management of the housing database for room selection and assignment, room condition and damage billing, and meal plan assignment and billing. Prepare daily, weekly reports as needed.
- Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, and invoice processing for all main office inventory. Â
- Collaborate with Residence Life staff to ensure smooth move-in/move-out processes. Â
- Respond to student and parent inquiries regarding housing assignments, policies, and procedures.Â
- Assist with summer housing for students to include assignments and billing. Assist with summer campus if needed, including marketing, hosting, and billing.
Student Conduct and Crisis ManagementÂ
- Provide direct administrative support to the Director, including Student Conduct scheduling, correspondence, and document preparation. Â
- Assist in the case of emergencies and severe weather within the assigned residence hallÂ
- Maintain an accurate list of all residents to be utilized in case of fire, tornado, or other emergencies requiring students to evacuate.  Â
- Communicate any student concerns as they pertain to mental health and Title IX-related issues to the appropriate administrators. Â
- Follow procedures as outlined in the emergency NWCC Emergency Response Plan.Â
Residence Life OperationsÂ
- Display initiative and leadership in administering the managerial duties and responsibilities for the daily operations of an on-campus residence hall of 50 - 100 residents.Â
- Serve as the immediate supervisor for designated Resident Assistants and Information AssistantsÂ
- Prepare the assigned residence hall for all residents to move into prior to the fall and spring semesters and maintain accurate and confidential records for every student and bed assignment within the residence hall. Â
- Perform computer skills for duties, such as completing reports, reviewing Campus ID card access, and reviewing cameras to bookmark events and report violationsÂ
- Lock and/or unlock and secure the assigned residence hall at specified timesÂ
- Conduct room inspections and submit maintenance reports accordingly.Â
- Address any violations of the Code of Student Conduct by documenting the situation and referring the student to the Director of Housing and Residence Life or District Dean of Student Services through a Campus Appearance Ticket and Incident Report.  Â
- Properly check out each residence hall student and submit accurate paperwork based on each check-out with documented chargesÂ
Leadership and Advocate for Student SuccessÂ
- Serve as a partner in the student's total development by working with the Advising and Retention Center, Student Counseling, Testing, and Disability Support Services, Student Activities and other offices as needed.Â
- Facilitate leadership opportunities and support all students in leadership development, specifically leadership events sponsored by Residence Life.Â
- Contribute to the development and facilitation of the residential curriculum by creating recruitment and retention programs and initiatives.Â

Physical abilities of this position include: Â
- Ability to communicate professionally both orally and in written formÂ
- Climb stairs to reach the highest floor of assigned residence hall multiple times throughout the day Â
- Walking (inside and outside in the elements of wind, rain, snow, etc.). Residence Hall Directors are required to be able to access all of the residence hall rooms.Â
- Lifting up residence hall mattresses to inspect for damage and desk chairs to place in appropriately in roomÂ
- Bending at the waist and/or knees to open drawers, look under beds, etc. Â
- Arm movement to open closet doors, drawers of chests, and desks, as well as reaching arms above head to reach shelves.  Â
- Sitting to view cameras, perform computer work, greet residents, complete paperwork, etc. Â
- Hand movement to type, write, file, and other clerical duties.Â
- Speaking to students, guests, and other college officials regarding the policies and processes for students who reside on-campus, including respectful confrontationÂ
- Ability to view a computer screen for 15 - 30 minutes at a timeÂ
- Resides primarily in provided housing accommodations while residents are on campus. Â
- Able to work two evening shifts during the week as well as select weekends as needed and communicated in advance (or in the event of emergency) by the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Weekend availability is a limited requirement within the Assistant Housing Operations Coordinator/Residence Hall Director role, however, the Asst. Housing Operations Coord./RHD is expected to assist with emergency related matters, or departmental operations as they arise in the assigned residence hall or on campus. Â
