Job description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To prepare household goods for safe transportation by wrapping, padding or crating items in cartons or crates at the customers residence. When required, be able to prepare an inventory of items for shipment and inspect each item closely identifying any existing damages and listing these on the inventory.
Load household items and boxes into trailer for transport under the direction of the driver/supervisor on site. Exercise good judgment and prudence in loading and securing items for transport.
Interact with all of Wheaton Moving & Storage customers in a professional manner. Be able to pack and load at a level of efficiency that will minimize claims for packing damage.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Packing of household good items into cartons or crates at residence
  • Assist driver in loading necessary packing materials and equipment on the truck
  • Assist in the unloading of any unused packing material off the truck each day
  • Assist in the delivery and unpacking of household goods at customer's residence
  • When necessary, prepare inventory of items to be shipped
  • Perform local moves when necessary
  • Check oil and fuel levels on all equipment before driving
  • Assist on O&I (office moves)
  • Assist with cleaning the warehouse, dock and local equipment
  • Palletize storage shipments in the warehouse
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide over-the-road drivers with labor as needed
  • Assist with any other duties around the warehouse
  • Perform other routine duties as required
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Six months of related experience and/or training. Ability to read and interpret operating and procedure manuals. The employee must exhibit professionalism and confidentiality.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee must meet the following physical requirements of this position:
  • Lift and lower boxes weighing up to 125 lbs.
  • Lift and carry boxes weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Repetitively lift and lower boxes weighing an average of 45 lbs.
  • Push and pull 300 lbs. loaded onto a 2-wheel dolly for a distance of up to 100 ft.
  • Push and pull 135 lbs. loaded onto a 2-wheel dolly up and down ramps and steps
  • Step into and out of trailers
  • Climb ladders

WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee will be required to work efficiently, safely and at a quick pace. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with their hands and arms, and use their hands to finger, handle or feel for objects, tools, or controls.
