Groundskeeper

PAY RATE - $15.00 - $18.00

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of manual work assignments associated with the care and maintenance of the grounds at Coppin State University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists landscape personnel with maintenance activities to include planting, transplanting, pruning, seeding, mulching, fertilizing and weeding; maintains roads, storm drains, and parking lots and to include ice and snow removal, removal of refuse, rubbish, leaves, dirt etc., and tree removal; drives and provides routine preventative maintenance on grounds vehicles; and operates and maintains related hand power equipment. This position is an essential Personnel position for emergencies such as snow removal, special events, storm damage, power outages and other emergencies that occur within Operations and Maintenance. The selected candidate will work five 8 hr. shifts per week.

SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists and serves as backup to other trades.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge and background in general landscape and maintenance, building/grounds maintenance.

Experience in the maintenance of lawns and sports field irrigation systems desired.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Criminal background check required for hire.

A valid and current driver's license with no more than 5 points is required prior to hire.

Ability to complete the following trainings as required: forklift operation certification, lock out tag out, fall arrest, confined space, MSDS, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, in-house OHSA and respirator training.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers telephones and copier, email etc.

Operate and perform minor maintenance on related equipment; and possess a working knowledge of tools, equipment and landscape techniques related to landscape maintenance.

Ability to promote and follow University of Maryland policies, Coppin State University policies and department procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more and work in rain, snow, heat and cold for long periods of time.

Perform extensive walking, standing, climbing and frequent lifting; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, dusty or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.
