GENERAL SUMMARY

St. Matthew's House is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing, food, recovery services, and support programs that transform lives throughout Southwest Florida. The Landscape Crew Member plays a vital role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of multiple St. Matthew's House properties.

Reporting to the Landscape Foreman, this position assists with daily grounds maintenance activities, including mowing, planting, trimming, irrigation support, and general landscape upkeep. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and takes pride in creating clean, attractive outdoor environments that support the organization's mission and serve residents, guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance and care of all landscaping and grounds across multiple St. Matthew's House properties.
  • Perform routine lawn maintenance tasks, including mowing, edging, trimming, and weed control.
  • Plant, water, fertilize, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and other landscape features.
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping projects and property beautification efforts.
  • Operate landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other hand and power tools.
  • Remove debris, litter, fallen branches, and other hazards from grounds and landscaped areas.
  • Support irrigation system inspections, minor repairs, and watering schedules as directed.
  • Monitor landscape areas and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, equipment issues, or property damage to the Landscape Foreman.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of landscaping materials and supplies.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and equipment operating guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with other maintenance and facilities personnel to support organizational needs.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful attitude when interacting with residents, guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Landscape Foreman or St. Matthew's House leadership.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and tools.
  • Basic knowledge of lawn care, planting, pruning, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
  • Valid Florida driver's license preferred and insurable under the organization's vehicle insurance policy.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, lawn maintenance, or related field preferred. Experience working with irrigation systems preferred.

Confidentiality: Works with highly confidential information.

Mental/Visual Demands: Flow of work requires normal mental and visual capabilities.

Physical Demand: Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat and lift throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions. Manual dexterity is sufficient to operate landscaping equipment and hand tools safely.

Working Conditions: This position primarily works outdoors across multiple St. Matthew's House locations in Southwest Florida. The role requires the use of landscaping equipment and exposure to changing weather conditions, noise, dust, and other environmental elements common to grounds maintenance operations.

Travel Travel is required in this role. Must be able to become a registered St. Matthew's House Driver.
