Job Description:
  • Support student learning by using a strong foundation of knowledge to help demonstrate, explain, apply, and practice course materials
  • Adapt to students' different learning styles by delivering assistance through various formats and methods
  • Assist in interpreting assignments and meeting instructor expectations
  • Motivate and encourage students without doing work for them
  • Help students learn how to organize, find resources, and study effectively
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with office staff
  • Submit time in ctcLink accurately by the due dates

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be a current Shoreline Community College Student enrolled in 6 or more credits
  • Be able to communicate effectively through English writing, speaking, and listening
  • Have a minimum 3.6 average math grade and no math classes below 3.0 cumulative GPA (or instructor recommendation)
  • Have successfully completed discipline related courses with a strong foundation of knowledge
  • Be able to work on an individual basis with minimum supervision
  • Be punctual with reliable attendance to all scheduled tutoring sessions
  • Interact reliably, professionally, respectfully, and compassionately with all students, tutors, staff, and others
  • Have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Be considerate of unique student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and tutor information
  • Commit to a minimum of two hours per week for an entire quarter
  • Be flexible about working hours that are varied and not guaranteed
