These developers are often hired for freelance, contract, or temporary positions to assist with specific development tasks. They may work on designing, coding, testing, or maintaining software solutions for businesses. Hourly developers offer flexibility for both employers and workers, making it easier to scale development efforts as needed. This type of role is common in remote and gig-based work environments.

What does an hourly software developer's typical work schedule look like?

Hourly Software Developers often have flexible schedules, with hours that can range from set shifts to project-based timelines, depending on employer or client needs. In many cases, developers may work remotely, collaborating with team members through online platforms and attending scheduled meetings or check-ins. The work structure encourages regular progress updates and communication to ensure milestones are met efficiently. This hourly model can provide work-life balance and adaptability, while still requiring accountability and consistent productivity to meet project deadlines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly software developer?

To excel as an Hourly Software Developer, you should have strong programming skills, a solid understanding of software development methodologies, and relevant education or proven experience in the field. Job description

Overview

Join Colgate-Palmolive as a Sr. Project Engineer and architect the future of advanced manufacturing. We are transforming our Greenwood, South Carolina Personal Care production plant into a high tech, robotically automated powerhouse. We are looking for a visionary Senior Project Engineer to take the reins of a massive engineering portfolio. This is a premier individual contributor role with true end to end ownership. You will not just manage spreadsheets; you will own the entire lifecycle of capital projects from a blank page concept and initial ideation to full scale build out, robotic integration, and final execution on the floor. If you want to leave your fingerprint on a world class facility ushering in a new era of automation, this is your launchpad.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with regional and global engineering teams to evaluate disruptive technologies and integrate advanced robotics and collaborate to achieve the efficiency and update/upgrade goals into our site strategy. Lead capital projects from inception to closing. You will define project objectives, calculate precise timelines, sequence build phases, manage multi million dollar budgets, and drive contractor bidding and vendor selection.
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; and preparing cost estimates.
  • Design and run technical studies to implement advanced analytical testing directly onto our production lines. You will also pioneer cutting edge engineering solutions for e-commerce end of line packaging differentiation, new product molds, and high speed asset optimizations.
  • Evaluate and monitor project risks and develop risk response plans to ensure project requirements are made efficiently and effectively.
  • Confirm peak product and asset performance by designing and executing rigorous testing and validation protocols, including Design Qualification, Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and Performance Qualification (DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Integrate Environmental Occupational Health and Safety (EOHS) standards and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) seamlessly into every engineering build, ensuring full compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations while driving a zero incident safety culture.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline
  • 6+ years of engineering experience inside a current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) environment, with a heavy emphasis on executing large scale capital projects from concept through implementation
  • Solid understanding of Capital Expenditure Budget (CEB) procurement processes, project risk assessment, and technical vendor management
  • Portfolio of completed projects requiring partnership with cross functional corporate teams, plant leadership, and third party contractors on a high speed production floor
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Engineering or Project Management, or an active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Advanced proficiency with design and tracking software such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Project and systems software such as SAP
