Join the San Jose Resilience Corps SJ Access Pathway! 

Gain firsthand experience in the fields of coding and information technology (IT), receive professional development, and connect with other passionate professionals. 

What is SJ Access?  

The San Jose Public Library (Library, SJPL) leads the Citywide Digital Equity priorities and implements several programs to ensure San Jose residents and students have access to all things digital. These initiatives are collectively known as SJ Access and encompass various activities including managing and implementing Community Wi-Fi projects, providing digital skills training around topics such as Artificial Intelligence, and supervising a young adult workforce development program for San Jose residents. 

Overview: 

San Jose Public Library (SJPL) SJ Access Resilience Corps Associates will participate in the SJ Access Pathway, a program that empowers young adults by providing foundational technical skills, hands-on professional experience, and opportunities for personal growth and community impact. This pathway serves as a launchpad for participants to explore careers in coding, computer science, and IT. Participants will gain/develop in-demand skills and earn a Swift coding certification while contributing to SJPL's efforts to bridge the digital divide. 

Resilience Corps Associates 

We are looking for professional, reliable, and passionate individuals who want to gain experience in the fields of coding and information technology (IT). This position will support digital equity programs during the 2026-27 academic year. 

These are paid, part-time positions beginning August 2026 and ending June 2027. The San Jose Public Library Foundation will provide a competitive hourly wage, on-the-job training, and professional development opportunities.  

Program Timeline 

Application Launch: June 1, 2026 

Program Start Date: August 10, 2026 

Program End Date: June 2027 

Mandatory Orientation: August 3-7, 2026 

Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday, between 10:00AM and 6:00PM, with potential of working some weekends 

Weekly Commitment: Minimum 15 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours per week 

Benefits for Associates Serving the Full Program Term 

Hourly wage of $25.50  

On-the-job training and support from San Jose Public Library staff 

Monthly professional development workshops 

Opportunities to network with SJPL staff from multiple departments 

Career transition support into permanent part-time or full-time roles in IT and related fields 

Professional Development Workshops  

Associates are required to attend monthly professional development workshops designed to support career growth. Associates will be paid for attending these workshops. Workshops will cover:  

Resume building and interview skills 

Financial literacy 

Career exploration 

Current Partner Organizations 

San Jose Public Library -- Support digital equity and IT efforts throughout the city while based at King Library 


Core Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Technical Training and Certification Support 
  • Engage in structured training to learn foundational concepts of coding. 
  • Complete coding certification training, including assignments and exams, with the goal of obtaining an industry-recognized certificate. 
  • Participate in a mentoring/shadowing opportunity with Library IT to gain experience with hands-on projects such as troubleshooting, and Apple IT device support skills.   

Digital Equity Initiatives 

  • Support the planning and delivery of community focused digital skill workshops for families, children, and adults. 
  • Assist in the continued development and delivery of programming related to artificial intelligence (AI) with emphasis on machine learning (ML), AI ethics, and AI safety. 

Professional Development 

  • Build essential soft skills, including leadership, public speaking, and workshop facilitation. 
  • Collaborate with SJPL staff members and program coordinators to implement programming that aligns with community needs. 
  • Develop a personal portfolio and present contributions at an end-of-program showcase event. 
  • Participate in monthly professional development workshops. 

Eligibility Requirements   

Must be a San Jose resident (proof of San Jose address required) 

Must be between the ages of 18-29 

Must be able to pass a background check   

Must be able to commit to the full program term: August 2026 - June 2027 

Must be available for orientation: August 3-7, 2026 

Must be available to work Monday-Friday between 9:00AM and 5:00PM 

Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours per week 

Preferred Qualifications 

Interested in the files of coding and information technology (IT).  

Strong communication and leadership skills or a willingness to actively develop these skills 

Ability to take direction and follow through with assigned tasks and responsibilities 

Priority will be given to applicants who are: low-income, former foster youth, justice-involved, unemployed, not currently enrolled in higher education, first-generation college student, youth who are engaged with the mental health or substance abuse system, and youth who are unhoused, formerly unhoused, housing-insecure, or at risk of becoming unhoused. 

 This job program is funded through philanthropic donations. Positions are provided and coordinated by the San Jose Public Library Foundation.
