Job description

The Scale Operator (6:00am - 2:30pm) serves as the first point of contact for drivers and customers entering or exiting LRS facilities. This role is responsible for accurately weighing vehicles, processing transactions, maintaining scale records, and providing exceptional customer service. The Scale Operator ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations while supporting efficient site operations.

MRF Manager
Essential Job Duties:
  • Operate the truck scale system to capture vehicle weights, verify materials, and generate tickets for inbound and outbound loads.
  • Greet and direct drivers courteously, confirming load type, delivery location, and disposal requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy in data entry, billing, and ticketing for all loads, including cash or charge transactions.
  • Monitor incoming materials for compliance with site and regulatory standards; immediately report prohibited, hazardous, or unsafe loads.
  • Maintain and reconcile daily tickets, and system reports; prepare end-of-day summaries for accounting and site leadership.
  • Communicate with dispatchers, equipment operators, and site management to coordinate traffic flow and resolve load discrepancies.
  • Enforce site safety rules for all drivers and visitors, including PPE compliance and traffic direction.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scale house and surrounding work area.
  • Participate in safety meetings, site audits, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support efficient and safe site operations.

Scope of Responsibility:
Responsible for accurate recording of all scale transactions and daily reporting. Supports compliance with environmental, DOT, and OSHA standards. Works under general supervision with limited decision-making authority. Interfaces regularly with internal site staff, haulers, and the public.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with customers, drivers, and teammates.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and computer data entry quickly and accurately.
  • Knowledge of material types and recycling/waste processes preferred.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred but not required.

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in customer service, logistics, or waste/recycling operations preferred.
  • Experience using scale management systems, Microsoft Office, or similar software applications preferred.
  • Prior basic accounting experience is helpful.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Often required to wear protective gear, such as gloves and safety glasses.
  • Long periods of sitting while operating machinery.
  • Use of hand and foot controls to operate equipment.
  • Exposure to vibrations from machinery.
  • Depending on the type of machinery, work can be indoors or outdoors.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • High noise levels from operating equipment.
  • Risk of injury from machinery and moving parts.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
