What is an hourly point cloud job?

Hourly Point Cloud jobs typically involve working with 3D data collected from laser scanners or photogrammetry to create, process, and analyze point clouds. These roles often require skills in software such as Autodesk ReCap, CloudCompare, or similar tools to convert raw data into usable models for industries like surveying, construction, or architecture. The 'hourly' aspect means that professionals are often hired on a freelance or contract basis and are paid based on the number of hours worked. Hourly Point Cloud technicians often work closely with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure accurate data collection and processing for projects such as construction, mapping, or infrastructure assessment. Collaboration is key, as technicians must communicate findings, share processed data, and sometimes participate in site visits or virtual meetings to align on project goals. Working within a multidisciplinary team environment helps ensure the point cloud data is properly integrated into broader project deliverables, and offers opportunities to learn from colleagues in related fields.

To thrive as a Point Cloud Technician, you need strong spatial awareness, attention to detail, and experience with 3D scanning or surveying, often supported by a background in geomatics, engineering, or related fields.
