Job description

Role Summary
A senior Jira administrator is responsible for managing and optimizing the Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira Software and Confluence, across large-scale environments. This role focuses on architecting scalable, governance-driven solutions that enable strategic planning, execution, and streamlined delivery processes. The position combines hands-on platform administration with AI-driven automation, integration design, and stakeholder training to enhance operational efficiency and executive visibility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Jira Software and Confluence, establishing governance standards for workflows, permissions, custom fields, and project templates.
  • Manage organization-level settings, user and group access, and enforce change control practices between sandbox and production environments.
  • Configure and maintain Jira across multiple levels, supporting scaled agile frameworks like SAFe, including hierarchy mapping, PI cadences, sprints, and value streams.
  • Collaborate with portfolio, program leadership, and product teams to support PI planning, system readiness, and agile best practices.
  • Design AI-assisted workflows for triage, auto-classification, summarization, and predictive routing using Atlassian Intelligence and integrated large language models.
  • Develop and maintain automations within Jira and Jira Service Management, utilizing native automation, webhooks, and scripted solutions (e.g., ScriptRunner, Groovy).
  • Architect integrations between Jira and DevOps tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and CI/CD pipelines, along with incident and alert systems.
  • Implement and govern Marketplace apps like ScriptRunner, Xray, Zephyr, Tempo, and Advanced Roadmaps, ensuring security, ROI, and scalability.
  • Create and maintain dashboards to report on metrics such as cycle time, lead time, SLA compliance, backlog health, dependencies, and PI outcomes.
  • Establish change management, backup and restore procedures, incident response protocols, and performance monitoring to ensure system reliability and security.
  • Provide stakeholder enablement through discovery sessions, designing scalable solutions, and training Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and project administrators on best practices.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience administering Jira at scale (Cloud or Data Center), managing complex workflows, multi-project governance, and Jira Service Management.
  • Proven success in implementing AI-driven automation for service delivery, including classification, routing, and auto-updates.
  • Proficiency with Jira/JSM Automation, ScriptRunner (Groovy), REST APIs, and event-driven integrations using Python or JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of SAFe and other scaled agile frameworks as well as ITIL practices, with the ability to translate portfolio goals into team-level execution patterns.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Strong data analysis, reporting, and dashboarding capabilities, coupled with a focus on data hygiene and quality control.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, balancing in-office activities with remote operations.

Publishing Pay Range: $70.00 - $75.00 Hourly

This position offers a hybrid schedule, with time split between the office and remote work.
