Job description

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is seeking a full-time Outside Machinist II in San Diego, CA.
Summary: The position will provide maintenance, repair and technical support to the customer. Provides technical support on shipboard machinery systems as a subject matter expert. Use technical documents (JFMM, Instructions, NSTM's, Military standards, Test memos, Test Standards, Drawings and Technical Manuals) that contain information required to accomplish work. This position will be under limited supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accomplishes mechanical repairs and testing onboard ships and in the shop. Work includes, but is not limited to, removal, repairs, overhaul, installation, alignment, troubleshooting, modifying, and testing on ship's mechanical systems and components including, but not limited to:
    • Antenna Tilting Group (ATG) twin and single boom, and Bath Iron works ATG unit overhaul and PF-109 Ball screw.
    • Boat davit nitrogen charged accumulator along with system nitrogen and hydro charging test as part of the function al test of the operation system.
    • Torpedo strike down and torpedo strike down lift hatch and dogging hatch actuator cylinder overhauled or replace assembly.
    • Various types and sizes of marine pumps. Includes, but is not limited to centrifugal pump, vane pump, sliding shoe pump, and piston pumps along with assorted pipe interferes, coupling, mechanical seal removal and installation on pump shaft, along with coupling alignment.
    • Anchor winch, steering pumps, close and open-ended pump, removal of assorted pipe interferences, coupling, pump housing and impeller as require for mechanical spring seats and seal removal and installation on pump shaft, along with coupling alignment.
    • Capstan/winches/anchor windless, sliding pad eyes, brake repairs, deck drains, towing array equipment, slew motor gear assemble.
    • Slew motor repair, Luff cylinder, hydraulic and pneumatic repair and overhaul.
    • Retractable bitts and roller chock repairs.
    • Stern tube shaft seal repairs
    • Baxter bolt removal, re-tapping and cleaning of bolt threads and deck plug threads.
    • Drill, tap and thread various bolts/studs and fasteners.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures set forth in Formal Work Packages. Read, interpret, understand and work to the requirements of appropriate technical manuals, drawings and blue prints.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of work-related experience performing diagnostic inspections and repairs on Navy ship mechanical systems
  • Sound interpersonal skills needed to interface, coordinate with company personnel, customers, and outside contacts
  • Ability to pass PQS 301 Craftsmen qualifications
  • Ability to read schematics and blue prints
  • Ability to read technical manuals and repair standards
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed written instructions, MRC cards or drawings
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations and private shipyards.

Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is $26.07 - $32.30 Hourly. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
  • Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships)
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight
