The Ideal Candidate: Tehama Department of Child Support Services is looking for a positive, professional team member with exceptional attendance and communication skills, a desire to learn, and established computer skills.
About the Position: Performs specialized and responsible office support work that requires knowledge of legal terminology and legal clerical procedures; and performs related work as required.
About the Department: Tehama County Department of Child Support Services is one of 47 local child support agencies in California. The department manages approximately 2,700 child support cases. Providing customers excellent service is a top priority. Staff are trained professionals ready to assist customers in opening a case, establishing a child support order, determining paternity, modifying their order, and enforcing their order. Examples of Duties
  • Processes, maintains, and prepares a variety of legal forms, records, and reports; verifies that information or data is complete, accurate, consistent, and in conformance with prescribed format, procedures, and regulations.
  • Reviews and investigates confidential information from agencies and processes documents related to assignments; interviews affected parties and explains procedures.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Legal Clerk I:
EITHER
One (1) year of full-time experience as an Office Assistant II;
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general clerical work.
Legal Clerk II:
EITHER
One (1) year of full-time experience as a Legal Clerk I;
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience performing general clerical work in a legal office environment.
License & Special Requirements:
  • A valid Class C California driver's license or alternative form of transportation may be required for some positions at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Due to IRS Publication 1075 Guidelines as established by the Federal Government and required by California Department of Child Support Services, all employees will be subject to a background check at the time of hiring and at least every 5 years.

Recruitment Information
The department is recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy.Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Legal Clerk I/II, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Examination Information:
In addition to meeting minimum qualifications for years of work experience in the field, candidates must complete a Training and Experience Examination. Responses will be evaluated by subject matter experts (e.g., managers of the position). Applicants who provide responses which demonstrate that they possess the requisite job-related education and experience on each exam section will be placed on the eligible list. Applicants must "pass" all 4 sections of the below scoring criteria to be placed on the eligible list for an interview.
Tentative T&E Examination Date(s):
Exams will be emailed to candidates meeting minimum qualifications the week of June 22, 2026.
*Candidates will have three (3) days to return a completed examination.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for July 1, 2026.
*Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
  • Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).

HEALTH:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
  • Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.

PAID LEAVES:
  • Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
    • 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
    • 96 hours of sick leave
    • 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.

RETIREMENT:
  • A retirement plan through CalPERS.
    • CalPERS Formulas:
      • Classic member = 2% @ 55
      • New Member = 2% @ 62
  • A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
