Looking for a qualified hourly Registered Nurse. Duties include completing medical health assessments and providing medical treatment, counseling, and health education relevant to adolescent growth and development to secure detention facility residents and other Juvenile Services group home residents.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties necessary to deliver services to customers and citizens may be assigned.
โ€ข Acts as the official health/medical resource to the detention/group home staff as related to control or communicable diseases, health and medical problems of detainees/residents, and other relevant health problems
โ€ข Performs routine physical assessments on detainees and those residents at the group home prior to their 59th day
โ€ข Administers TB tests to detainees/residents, reads results and makes appropriate recommendations. Also responsible for staff TB tests.
โ€ข In consultation with Caseworkers and/or Parents, provides liaison activities with other health care providers in the community as related to facility and resident health care to include making appointments and/or may accompany detainees as needed to various health/medical appointments, including emergency room
โ€ข Obtains medical history, including possible allergies, chronic health problems, drug/alcohol abuse, and other pertinent health information of detainees/residents
โ€ข Holds "sick-call" for detainees/residents, using discretion and judgment regarding referral to other health professionals
โ€ข Gives and/or observes the administering of medication and performs treatment recommended by health professionals
โ€ข Performs first-aid measures when needed
โ€ข Consults with other professionals (i.e. doctors, nurses, probation officers, mental health, caseworkers, social workers, etc.) and parents regarding detainee's physical and emotional condition
โ€ข Provides information and maintains health records, including copies of detention/group home physical examinations, to other relevant professionals involved with the detainees
โ€ข Requisitions, dispenses and inventories medical supplies, prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for detention/group home
โ€ข Conducts and/or arranges classes for detainees/residents on general health and hygiene, included but not limited to drug abuse, venereal diseases, and life skills dealing with health issues and assists in connecting detainees/residents with community health resources and programs in preparation for their return to the community
โ€ข Follows all HIPPA rules and guidelines for the dissemination of all medical services o ensure detainee/resident confidentiality
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
โ€ข Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
โ€ข When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no formal supervisory responsibilities. May direct and monitor the work of part-time nurses, interns and trainees.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of successful experience in graduate nursing, hospital work or related field.
Additional Requirements
Possession of certificate as a registered professional nurse as issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Possession of valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
Prior to employment must have Criminal Record Check and reference checks completed, and Child Protective Services check initiated. Prior to onset of employment must have tuberculin and drug screen as part of physical examination.
