Job description

About Snag

Snag Delivery is a rapidly growing 10-minute delivery service built for college students. Customers shop from 1,500+ products through our app, and we deliver in minutes using our student workforce and local “dark store” micro-warehouses. Our mission is to make everyday essentials instantly accessible while building a fun, reliable, and affordable service for students. We are currently at 16 college campuses across 8 different states and continue to grow.

About the Role

The Inventory Accountant will be responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of inventory across Snag's store network.

You'll own the processes that connect purchasing, receiving, sales, inventory adjustments, vendor invoices, and our general ledger. You'll investigate discrepancies, improve the systems used to identify inventory issues, and work closely with our Operations, Inventory, and Accounting teams to ensure we have accurate inventory and COGS reporting.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable both working through detailed reconciliations and thinking about how to build better processes as the company scales.

This is a fully in-person position located in Austin, TX.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own inventory accounting and reconciliation across Snag's store network, including inventory and COGS balances as part of the monthly close.
  • Reconcile purchasing, receiving, sales, inventory adjustments, vendor invoices, and general ledger activity to ensure our systems accurately reflect inventory movement.
  • Own the vendor payment process for inventory suppliers, including reviewing invoices, resolving discrepancies, maintaining payment schedules, and ensuring vendors are paid accurately and on time.
  • Investigate discrepancies between physical inventory, system balances, vendor records, and accounting records and work with Operations and Inventory teams to identify root causes.
  • Review and account for inventory adjustments related to shrinkage, damaged or expired products, theft, refunds, substitutions, and other operational activity.
  • Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts and ensure resulting adjustments are accurately reflected in the financial statements.
  • Build reporting and controls that identify unusual inventory activity, reconciliation issues, and potential operational problems.
  • Improve and automate inventory accounting processes as Snag grows, while supporting month-end close, year-end close, and audit requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally involving inventory, COGS, retail, distribution, or consumer products.
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and inventory accounting.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and comfort working with large amounts of transactional data.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with a willingness to investigate discrepancies until the underlying cause is understood.
  • Able to work effectively across accounting and operations and understand both the financial and operational sides of a problem.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-growing environment where processes are still being built and improved.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 – $100,000/year, depending on experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • PTO and paid holidays.
  • Opportunity to grow with a rapidly scaling company.

Who You Are

You’re someone who takes pride in keeping numbers accurate, vendors happy, and processes efficient. You enjoy solving problems, spotting discrepancies, and working with a fast-paced team where no two days are the same.
