What is an hourly delivery driver?

Hourly delivery drivers are individuals employed to transport goods, packages, food, or other items from one location to another, and they are paid based on the number of hours they work. Unlike independent contractors or gig workers who are often paid per delivery, hourly delivery drivers typically receive a steady hourly wage and may be eligible for additional benefits through their employer. Their daily tasks can include loading and unloading items, following delivery routes, and ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining good customer service. These positions may be found in various industries, such as retail, food service, and logistics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly delivery driver?

To thrive as an Hourly Delivery Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and strong navigation skills. Familiarity with GPS navigation apps, route optimization tools, and sometimes handheld delivery scanners is typically required. Excellent time management, reliability, and customer service skills help drivers stand out in this role. These competencies ensure timely, accurate deliveries and positive customer experiences, which are critical for success in a fast-paced delivery environment.

What are some common challenges hourly delivery drivers face, and how can they be addressed?

Hourly Delivery Drivers often encounter challenges such as traffic congestion, navigating unfamiliar routes, and managing time-sensitive deliveries. To address these, many companies provide GPS navigation tools and route optimization apps to help drivers plan the most efficient paths. Additionally, clear communication with dispatchers and customers can help resolve issues quickly if delays occur. Staying organized and allowing extra time for unexpected obstacles can also make the job smoother and less stressful.

Job description

Delivery Drivers regularly take home $20+ an hour with a combination of tips, a driver maintenance reimbursement (DMR), and their hourly wage.

Flexible shift hours available. Work as short as 11am-2pm or work through the Lunch and Dinner rushes. We have something for everyone's schedule.

Tips are paid out daily.

A Jimmy John's Delivery Driver's goal is to get that sandwich in the customer's hand as quickly as possible. We do this by learning the most efficient routes, double-checking orders to ensure everything is accounted for, and hustling on our feet (while always being safe and law abiding on the street). While not on the road, Drivers work in the store (preparing sandwiches, taking orders, helping clean) and are compensated accordingly as well as being eligible for the In-shop tipping pool. Delivery is a customer service job, so following a customer's request and doing it with a smile can lead to more successful days.

· MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD

· MUST HAVE A VEHICLE, VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE, PROOF OF INSURANCE, AND A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD

· MUST DRIVE SAFE AND OBEY THE RULES OF THE ROAD

· WILL WORK AS AN INSHOPPER WHEN THERE ARE NO DELIVERIES

Benefits:

· The potential to earn up to $20+ per hour (This includes tips, mileage, and your hourly wage)

· Free employee meals every shift over 6 hours.

· Career/Promotion Opportunities

You are seeking employment with Tossitup, Inc, an independently owned & operated franchise of the Jimmy John's Franchise, LLC system. You are not seeking employment with Jimmy John's Franchisor, SPV, LLC (the franchisor of the Jimmy John's system) or any of its affiliates, which are separate and wholly independent companies from Tossitup, Inc.

Each Jimmy John's franchisee is an independent employer and thus solely responsible for hiring decisions and all other employment-related matters for the franchisee's restaurant(s). The terms “Company,” “Jimmy John's,” “we,” “our,” or “us” refer to the specific entity (corporate or franchise) that owns and operates the Jimmy John's restaurant to which you are applying.

Jimmy John's and its franchisees are equal opportunity employers.
