Overview
Granite City Electric is seeking a Wire Cutting Machine Operator for our Chicopee, MA location. The scheduled working hours are 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Wire Cutting Machine Operator is responsible for operating wire-cutting and respooling equipment to cut, strip, coil, and package wire and cable according to customer specifications and work orders.
Successful candidates will be mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. High-lift, forklift, and clamp-truck certification may be required. Training will be provided. An incentive plan is available to candidates.
The hourly pay range for this position is $23-$29.
Essential Functions
  • Operate wire-cutting, coiling, respooling, payoff, and take-up equipment to complete cuts according to work-order specifications.
  • Load and unload master reels onto wire-cutting and respooling equipment.
  • Measure, cut, respool, coil, and package wire and cable to specified lengths.
  • Accurately record cuts, reel information, and other required data in the Eclipse software system.
  • Safely move materials manually or with a forklift, pallet jack, handcart, high lift, clamp truck, or other authorized equipment.
  • Assist with routine inspections of wire-cutting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of GCE policies and procedures, products, equipment, and operating systems.
  • Participate in training programs, safety initiatives, and departmental meetings as requested.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with customers, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous machine operation, warehouse, or distribution experience preferred.
  • Previous electrical wire or cable cutting experience is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of machinery, hand tools, and warehouse equipment.
  • Forklift and other powered-industrial-equipment experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated reliability, including reporting to work on time and adhering to scheduled break periods.
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust to changing business conditions, priorities, and workloads.
  • Willingness to receive coaching and actively participate in the coaching process.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications for forklifts, high lifts, clamp trucks, or other powered equipment.

Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move materials weighing between 70 and 100 pounds on a repetitive or ongoing basis, with assistance or material-handling equipment when required.
    • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
    • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and perform other repetitive movements frequently.
    • Ability to push, pull, measure, cut, and handle cable and reels throughout the workday.
    • Ability to use manual cutters, hand tools, and wire-processing equipment repeatedly.
    • Physical endurance to perform warehouse and wire-cutting responsibilities for the duration of the assigned shift.
