Job description

Basic Purpose:
Under the guidance and mentorship of the Body Shop Manager and experienced technicians, the Body Shop Technician Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in vehicle body repair and refinishing. The apprentice will assist in assessing, repairing, and restoring company vehicles to factory specifications while developing the skills necessary for a successful career in the trade.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in estimating parts costs and labor for cosmetic and structural repairs on company vehicles.
  • Support senior technicians in removing and reinstalling vehicle body parts, including upholstery, accessories, and electrical components.
  • Learn and perform basic welding, riveting, and bolting techniques under supervision.
  • Assist in replacing and installing vehicle glass windows.
  • Gain hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools to repair and adjust major vehicle body components.
  • Help prepare vehicle evaluation reports for the safety and maintenance department.
  • Learn proper techniques for restoring damaged vehicle frames and body sections to factory standards.
  • Assist in vehicle painting and finishing processes, including prepping surfaces and applying protective coatings.
  • Comply with all safety standards, including FCMSA, OSHA, and company safety regulations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned while growing technical expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a vocational or technical school program in auto body repair is preferred.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Prior experience in auto body repair, painting, or a mechanical shop setting is a plus but not required.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop skills in the body shop trade.
  • Ability to use good judgment and follow detailed instructions.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at various heights on fleet vehicles.
  • Basic understanding of hand and power tools used in body repair.
  • Must be able to pass HIOSH-required respirator testing.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required.
