Job description

Job Summary: The Coordinator-Transplant 1, Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) demonstrates comprehensive care and advanced knowledge related to the specialty practice of pediatric stem cell and bone marrow transplant process and treatment. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct and indirect quality patient- centered care in a dynamic environment in a large tertiary, Magnet Recognized academic Children's Hospital. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and in accordance with LLUCH's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve proficient individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support as needed. Works in tandem with nursing leadership and Medical Director to achieve/maintain Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) accreditation, maintains databases as per requirements. Evaluates pre-transplant referrals and gathers required medical record information and coordinates initial evaluation meeting. Case manages patients from referral and acceptance into the program through the continuum of care. Provides ongoing education to patient/parent/caregiver and encourages them to ask questions and to actively participate in their care. Assists with the transplant, and monitors patient for changes in condition. Coordinates work-up activities as they pertain to recipient and donor. Monitors patient labs post-chemo mobilization and coordinating timing of apheresis with team and blood bank. Participates in department quality improvement and Self-Manage work team, in an effort to optimize patient outcomes. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Minimum three years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) required, preferably in the field of stem cell transplant or oncology.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge related to the adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant. Knowledgeable about state and federal healthcare regulations, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, FACT and NMDB requirements. Knowledge of adult learning principles, management and problem-solving methodologies. Exhibits professional behavior at all times. Able to speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; use sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge; work independently with minimal supervision; meet deadlines; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve in a proactive and creative manner; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; exhibit professional behavior at all times.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American heart Association required. Chemotherapy/biotherapy certificate required. Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications issued by the American Heart Association preferred or within 90 days of hire.
