Job description

About Agoda
At Agoda, we bridge the world through travel. Our story began in 2005, when two lifelong friends and entrepreneurs, driven by their passion for travel, launched Agoda to make it easier for everyone to explore the world.
Today, we are part of Booking Holdings [NASDAQ: BKNG], with a diverse team of over 7,000 people from 90 countries, working together in offices around the globe. Every day, we connect people to destinations and experiences, with our great deals across our millions of hotels and holiday properties, flights, and experiences worldwide.
No two days are the same at Agoda. Data and technology are at the heart of our culture, fueling our curiosity and innovation. If you're ready to begin your best journey and help build travel for the world, join us.
The Opportunity
As Manager, US Indirect Tax Advisory, you will join a tax advisory team that is growing rapidly as the tax landscape for digital services continues to evolve. Sitting within the broader Tax and Finance organization (more than 300 professionals), you will work closely with Finance, Product, Commercial, and Legal teams, external advisors, and the broader group tax teams. This role can be based in our New York office or performed remotely from anywhere in the United States.
The purpose of this position is to lead US indirect tax advisory matters - spanning Sales and Use Tax, Hotel Occupancy and other lodging taxes, and other US indirect taxes - in a fast-moving business environment. Exposure to Canadian indirect taxes (GST/HST, QST, and PST) is a welcome plus, but the core focus of the role is US tax. You will own your projects end to end: from scoping the challenge (including budgeting) through to solution design, execution, and implementation, managing stakeholders and relationships with external tax advisors along the way. While the role is hands-on, you will also help shape the long-term vision of the tax team and share your technical expertise to support the growth of colleagues around you.
You will interact with our Senior Leadership Team, our US parent company and sister brands, international offices, business managers, functional teams, IT, and other finance and legal colleagues. As the organization grows, the responsibilities of this role will evolve - we expect you to proactively identify new areas where tax support is needed, take the initiative in shaping solutions, and embrace additional challenges as they arise.
You will operate in a highly dynamic, project-driven environment where business models, products, and partnerships change quickly - an environment that rewards strong initiative, proactive problem-solving, and comfort with ambiguity.
What You'll Do
  • Assess the US indirect tax position of our business models and translate complex, often ambiguous rules into practical, commercially aligned guidance.
  • Analyze the US indirect tax implications of existing and new programs, products, and partnerships; proactively identify risks and opportunities, make key decisions, and drive the practical implementation of tax requirements in internal systems.
  • Monitor US state and local (SALT) tax developments - and, where relevant, Canadian indirect tax developments - evaluate the business and process changes they require, and develop and execute plans to ensure compliance with new rules and regulations.
  • Review and advise on contracts from an indirect tax perspective, including marketplace, digital platform, and travel-specific considerations.
  • Lead indirect tax projects and build strategic and operational work plans so that new services, products, and market launches are tax compliant and on time.
  • Manage, influence, and constructively challenge cross-functional stakeholders (Commercial, Product, Legal, Finance, IT) to deliver tax-compliant, scalable solutions - representing tax requirements assertively while balancing business objectives.
  • Support and review the work of team members reconciling revenue, purchases, and indirect tax balances with the financials, drawing on a solid understanding of how indirect taxes flow through in-house financial applications and systems.
  • Coordinate with external advisors on US indirect tax matters, obtain tax advice where needed, and support accurate and timely indirect tax reporting and payments.
  • Champion indirect tax awareness across the Agoda group and contribute to the long-term vision of the tax team.

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Tax, Economics, Law, Accounting, Finance, or a related business field; a graduate degree in taxation, CPA, or JD is an additional asset.
  • At least 8 years of indirect tax experience gained at a Big 4 firm, a top law firm, or a major in-house tax function.
  • Deep technical knowledge of US Sales and Use Tax and state and local taxes is a must; working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST, QST, and PST - or broader VAT/GST experience in a global environment - is a nice-to-have.
  • A detail-oriented, independent approach to leading medium- and high-complexity, cross-functional projects - from problem definition and design through execution, analysis, recommendation, and implementation.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complicated technical tax issues clearly to senior leadership.
  • Experience configuring indirect tax in systems, including ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle) or tax engines, is an asset.
  • E-commerce, marketplace, or travel industry experience is a plus.

It's Great if You Have
  • A self-motivated, proactive, results-oriented mindset - you identify, define, and scope challenges and opportunities and take full ownership of your work.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of cross-functional teams.
  • The ability to express ideas clearly and adapt your communication style to different audiences (senior leadership, commercial teams, product and engineering) while remaining confident and assertive in presenting tax positions.
  • A strong grasp of detail combined with an understanding of the bigger picture.
  • A demonstrated can-do attitude: comfortable taking ownership in ambiguous situations, exercising sound judgment with incomplete information, and moving projects forward.
  • An energetic, driven personality - comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing shifting priorities and adapting well to change.
