Job description

Position Summary
The Hot Forming Lead provides daily technical leadership and guidance to the Hot Forming team. This position ensures hot forming operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and production schedules. The Hot Forming Lead serves as the department's technical resource, coaches team members, and supports the Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the daily activities of the Hot Forming team.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately, including sign-offs, traveler cards (TC), heat charts, and time records, when applicable.
  • Train, mentor, and coach team members on proper setup, alignment, heating, pressing, and forming techniques.
  • Verify employees follow established work instructions, production requirements, and quality standards throughout the hot forming process.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor work quality and process consistency, addressing issues and escalating recurring concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Coordinate daily workflow and communicate production priorities with the Supervisor.
  • Ensure employees have the tools, equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate equipment issues, production delays, quality concerns, and material shortages to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to quality.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hot forming, press operations, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Ability to read blueprints, work orders, engineering drawings, and production documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of hot forming processes, press operations, material handling, and quality standards.
  • Previous experience leading, training, or mentoring employees preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including high-heat manufacturing environments, as well as exposure to noise, dust, and other industrial conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and other required safety equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate presses, overhead cranes, forklifts (if certified), and other material handling equipment as required.
