Overview

To provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)

  • Responds to all emergency calls, and provides security escorts.
  • Discourages loitering.
  • Dispatches other security personnel, as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy of all data, records, forms, reports, procedures and other information regarding customer relations of The Methodist Hospitals.
  • Meets with staff, employees, patients and visitors to complete any offense reports or criminal reports.
  • Monitors CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Monitors the activities of all persons in the emergency room, and emergency waiting area.
  • Patrols the outside parking lots and campus areas, monitoring for any criminal activity.
  • Patrols off-site locations, as needed and cites those in violation of ordinance, law and/or hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conducts interior patrols of the campus, monitoring for any criminal activity.
  • Records activities occurring during the shift on the daily activity Log.
  • Secures the Administration building.
  • Locks and unlocks daily, the specified areas.
  • Qualifications

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Minimum Requirements)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Ability to make decisions and hancle various situations.
    • Ability to remain calm in hostile situations.
    • Good customer service skills with a positive attitude and showing professional courtesy.
    • Ability to handle hostile situations, reasonable use of force, handcuffs, firearm, arrest procedures and carry out all laws and ordinances of Indiana State Code and policies and procedures of Methodist Hospitals.
    • The dress code must be in compliance with the Police Department uniform dress code regulations.
    • Maintains competence in all formats of communication good customer relations, i.e. written, oral, and body language.

    • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

    • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the employee's state of residence, and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
    • Requires a law enforcement certification and must be an active Indiana law enforcement officer, in good standing with an Indiana Police department or law enforcement agency who is employed by the hospital and qualified to perform the duties required of an able body police officer.
    • Requires 24 hour certification in various classes offered by police department.
    • Must qualify with firearm.
