Serving nearly 90,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including Level II NICU, cancer care, women's health, and orthopedics. Additionally, Mercy Hospital Downtown & Mercy Hospital Southwest have been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. They are both Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers. Mercy Hospital Downtown offers the only inpatient Oncology Unit in Bakersfield while Mercy Hospital Southwest has the only Obstetric Emergency Department in Bakersfield.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
.As our Tutor Lead, you will oversee our Kindergarten through 6th-grade Afterschool Clubs, providing both individual and small-group instruction. Beyond direct tutoring, you will lead the program's operations by managing supplies and snacks, developing weekly curricula, scheduling activities, and supervising our summer program.
Every day you will empower students by facilitating extended lessons, reviewing class materials, and guiding them through problem-solving and writing tasks. Using creative, interactive materials, you will provide compassionate, motivating support to ensure every student improves their academic performance and gains confidence in their studies.
To be successful in this role, you must be a patient and organized mentor with a passion for student development. You should demonstrate excellence in both instruction and administrative leadership, with the ability to design engaging academic plans and manage a productive, supportive learning environment for diverse young learners.
  • Program Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the Afterschool Club, including supervising the summer program, managing inventory for supplies and snacks, and coordinating student activity schedules.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive weekly educational curriculum tailored to the academic needs of Kindergarten through 6th-grade students.
  • Instructional Excellence: Provide high-quality one-on-one and small-group tutoring, with a demonstrated proficiency in explaining core Mathematics and English concepts to elementary-aged learners.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student learning styles, ensuring every child receives the support necessary to reach their academic potential.
  • Student Engagement: Foster a compassionate and motivating learning environment, utilizing creative and interactive materials to help students master classroom assignments and prepare for assessments.
