Job description

Position Summary

The Crisis Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transport of individuals from community settings, hospitals, or emergency response locations to the agencyโ€™s crisis facility. This role ensures the well-being, dignity, and confidentiality of clients while maintaining vehicles, following safety protocols, and coordinating with community partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, secure, and timely transport of individuals in crisis from community locations, hospitals, or emergency response settings to the crisis facility.
  • Serve as a liaison between local hospitals, EMS, law enforcement, and the agencyโ€™s crisis services team.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs, maintenance records, and trip documentation.
  • Use routing and scheduling software to plan efficient and timely transport routes.
  • Follow all agency policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report vehicle issues, incidents, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all transports and client interactions.

Safe Transport Duties (ADA-Equipped Vehicles)

  • Operate ADA-compliant vehicles safely and in accordance with all traffic laws and agency policies.
  • Secure wheelchairs using approved tie-down and restraint systems.
  • Properly use lifts, ramps, and securement equipment for safe boarding and exiting.
  • Assist clients with mobility needs while maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Conduct safety checks of ADA equipment before and after each transport.
  • Ensure seatbelts and restraints are properly fastened for all passengers.
  • Monitor client behavior and well-being during transport.
  • Follow de-escalation techniques when needed to maintain a safe environment.
  • Keep vehicles clean, sanitized, and ready for use.
  • Report any ADA equipment malfunctions immediately.

Additional Duties (Crisis Facility Support)

  • Assist crisis staff with client check-in and discharge coordination.
  • Support basic non-clinical tasks within the crisis facility as assigned.
  • Assist with client movement within the facility when needed.
  • Maintain transport readiness and communication with crisis staff.
  • Help with light administrative or operational tasks during downtime.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and drills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in transportation, behavioral health, social services, or emergency services preferred.
  • Ability to operate ADA-equipped vehicles and equipment (training provided).
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use routing or scheduling software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Crisis intervention or de-escalation training.
  • Experience working with individuals in behavioral health or crisis settings.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to assist clients with mobility needs.
  • Ability to operate wheelchair lifts and securement systems.
