Job description

Description The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Hospital Security Officer to perform duties needed to maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the buildings and grounds of the University of Iowa Health Care
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital
  • Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff
  • Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments
  • Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up
  • Respond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and security
  • Respond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcement
  • Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security alarms
  • Provide security surveillance of institution, including physiatric units
  • Maintain a working knowledge of computers to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systems
  • Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas
  • Perform safekeeping procedures
  • Provide effective oral and written communication
  • Enforce all institution policies and procedures
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry fifty pounds.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.

Qualifications Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Two years' experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
    • One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; or
    • Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety
  • Possession of appropriate driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.
Desirable Requirements
  • Two years of customer service experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Key Training/Compliances:
  • IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 days
  • Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 days
