Director of Nursing (DON) - Psychiatric Nursing Unit
Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Magnolia is now accepting applications for a full-time Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our 24-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital in Magnolia, Mississippi.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced nursing leader who is passionate about behavioral health, regulatory compliance, staff development, and delivering exceptional patient care. The Director of Nursing will provide strategic and operational leadership for all nursing services while fostering a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and compassion.
Position Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all nursing operations within the psychiatric hospital.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, and Mississippi Department of Health regulations.
  • Direct nursing staffing, scheduling, recruitment, retention, and employee development.
  • Promote a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and excellent clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, Administrator, and interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Monitor nursing documentation, infection prevention, medication management, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce nursing policies and procedures.
  • Lead survey readiness activities and coordinate responses to regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor and support nursing leaders while promoting professional growth and accountability.
  • Participate in hospital leadership meetings, budget planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as Administrator On-Call (AOC) as scheduled.

Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Mississippi.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of nursing leadership experience, preferably in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, CMS regulations, and state licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Current BLS certification required (ACLS preferred).
