Overview
We are hiring a Financial Planning Analyst Senior to join our team at UnityPoint Health! This position plays a key role in the hospital accounting and financial reporting functions. This role helps ensure the integrity, accuracy and completeness of financial data and reporting within generally accepted accounting principles. Additionally, this position manages the monthly close process for UnityPoint Health at a regional level as well as analyzes and reviews financial statements to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Candidates with automation, PowerBI or Tableau experience are encouraged to apply!
Location: Remote - applicants must reside within the UnityPoint Health footprint of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Responsibilities
Accounting Functions - Center of Excellence
  • Manages the monthly close process for UnityPoint Health Senior Affiliates
  • Prepares financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position
  • Ensures integrity of all financial information under US GAAP
  • Applies accounting and finance knowledge and expertise to help drive, influence and gain support to achieve overall strategic and financial initiatives
  • Operates as the subject matter expert in accounting matters related to the respective Senior Affiliate
  • Represents the finance and accounting function in acquisition analysis and acquisition integration and supports the related audit work
  • Prepares technical accounting memos to support accounting positions as required
  • Manages quarterly & annual reporting, including the completion of financial statements and footnotes, management's discussion and analysis encompassing review of all new accounting matters and application of judgment
  • Prepares regional Board packets
  • Reviews documentation prepared by accounting team for monthly financial statement preparation (i.e. journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.)
  • Drives process change and re-engineering to improve efficiencies in overall accounting, finance and business processes
  • Assists with research and documentation of proper accounting treatment for major transactions
  • Works heavily with leadership including Finance, Operations, Counsel and Business Development teams on complex structures to ensure the Company optimizes the appropriate accounting and financial reporting impacts. Regular contact with the VP Finance/CFO and business leaders
  • Collaborates with business partners to implement "better run" finance processes for finance activities especially as it relates to the execution of the shared service center.
  • Manages annual audit processes (internal and external), as well as supports the organization during regulatory audits and internal controls. Manages the relationship with the audit committee, internal & external audit and key external agencies.
  • Assists Director of Hospital Accounting and Director of Ambulatory Accounting on special projects.
  • Works closely with the treasury team on any debt and equity related transactions from an accounting perspective. Manages the debt covenant process in connection with the treasury team

Liaison with Regional Finance Teams
  • Consistent interaction with UnityPoint Health affiliates on managing monthly accounting functions and close process
  • Provides assistance to regional leadership related to managing and communicating financial results
  • Assists with preparation and review of regional annual operating budgets
  • Interacts frequently with regional finance leaders including site visits to assess compliance with corporate financial policies and the health & overall relevance of the local balance sheets and tracking of its various constituents
  • Ensures all deadlines and schedules are met on time and in accordance with regional Service Level Agreements

Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required
  • Preferred: CPA or MBA

Experience:
  • Minimum seven (7) years work experience in financial planning, budgeting, analytics, and accounting related fields
  • PowerBI and/or Tableau experience
  • Experience in automation

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statement presentation necessary to support accurate financial reporting
