Job description

Outriders are essential to the smooth and safe operation of horse racing events and training sessions. They patrol the track during morning workouts, training sessions, and race days to enforce safety practices and respond to emergencies. In addition to track duties, Outriders care for their own horses, maintain stalls, and collaborate closely with gate crews, jockeys, and racetrack staff. This position requires strong horsemanship skills, physical endurance, and the ability to handle high-risk situations with professionalism.

NOTE: This position is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Please note that a positive drug test result, including for marijuana, may result in a job offer being rescinded for applicants or termination of employment for current employees, even if they possess a valid medical marijuana license.

Company:Cherokee Nation Entertainment

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ownership of at least three horses is mandatory.
  • Ability to pick up a horse on a dead run and manage emergency situations.
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment and computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain licensing from the appropriate gaming authority.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work in hazardous environments with strict safety precautions.
  • Outride during training sessions and race dates to ensure racetrack safety.
  • Maintain stalls and care for assigned horses to keep them in proper condition.
  • Monitor and enforce safety practices on the racing and training surface.
  • Assist with broken down or distressed horses as needed.
  • Collaborate with gate crew, jockeys, and racetrack personnel to support smooth operations.
