The Role:

The horse racing jogger is a highly skilled rider who works with horses during training workouts and monitors the horse’s physical condition.

Responsibilities:

  • Mount, ride, and handle multiple racehorses each morning during their training workouts, which can include jogging, cantering, and galloping.
  • Work closely with the head trainer to execute specific exercise plans for each horse. This includes controlling the horse's pace and adhering to the prescribed workout for the day.
  • Observe and report horse’s condition, reporting crucial information back to the trainer, to include overall condition, attitude, and soundness while on the track.
  • Collects tickets, allowing owners and trainers to use the horse jogger
  • Assist with leveling out dirt on the track when necessary
  • Strictly follow safety protocols for themselves, the horses, and other riders on the track.

Qualifications:

  • Possess advanced horsemanship skills, including a strong seat, soft hands, and the ability to control a racehorse.
  • Prior experience riding horses in a racing environment preferred
  • Maintain a positive and disciplined mindset, as a rider's mood can be communicated to the horse.
  • Be able to adapt to different track conditions and a variety of horse temperaments.
  • Communicate effectively with the trainer and other stable staff.
  • Ability to obtain a Colorado Racing license
