Ensures only horses scheduled to race are permitted in the paddock by verifying the identity of the horse
Releases identified horses to handlers for transfer to paddock for saddling
Notifies the steward upon detecting any discrepancy in a horse's identity
Records physical changes in horses, such as weight increase or scar received since last inspection in order to keep identification records current
Supervises the identification of any horse on the grounds of Oaklawn before approving the horse for tattooing
Maintains a card that lists all equipment worn and the tattoo number for each horse racing at the meeting
Compares the equipment actually being used on the horse with the approved equipment listed on the card
Ability to work required overtime
Regular punctual attendance required
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to read, write legibly, understand and speak English
Ability to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays
Ability to stand for periods of time and work in inclement weather when necessary
Education & Experience
Must be 21 years of age
High School Diploma or equivalent required
