Job description

At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Fabricator/Grinder to join the Original Casting Lighting Team in St. Louis, MO. The Fabricator uses a variety of hand and power tools and machines to determine how to cut, bend or grind pieces of material (aluminum) to match engineering drawings in an accurate and timely manner.   Must be able to perform all tasks conducted in the fabrication process and monitor the products being manufactured. Knowledge of all commonly used fabrication machines including set-up safety practices and procedures.

What Will You Do?

  • Operates all machinery in the fabrication department that may include:
    • Saws (horizontal/vertical/circular)
    • Grinder
    • Drills (hand/stationary)
    • Forklifts  
  • Works independently to complete assigned work orders within the allotted amount of time for each job. 
  • Responsible for setting up work station and equipment.
  • Must be able to maneuver fabrication machines, such as grinders, drill presses, brakes, rolls, to cut, bend, grind and adjust materials according to engineering blueprint.
  • Review blueprints, drawings, and other specification papers before starting work on a fabrication process and during the steps to ensure accurate completion
  • Complete production paperwork to document material consumed, wasted and produced as well as time needed to complete.
  • Must be able to rotate task as needed.
  • Must be accountable for own quality and efficiency of work.

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Diploma (GED).

Experience: Min 2 years experience in fabrication.  Experience with precision measuring tools(caliper, micrometer, measuring tape)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Basic reading and writing in English
  • Excellent math skills able to add and subtract fractions
  • Must have knowledge in operating hand and power tools common to the fabrication trade.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand the entire work shift
  • Able to perform repetitive job functions; hand mobility, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule
