Job description

The Before and After School Group Leader implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, engaging, and nurturing environment. This opening serves the Emilson Y branch, covering Norwell and Scituate program locations. Days are full of hands-on engagement, from morning activities to after-school homework help, gross motor play, and arts and crafts.
Your Role Will Include:
  • Program Management: Plan and execute programs meeting EEC/HEPA standards and children's needs; accommodate children with disabilities per EEC and ADA.
  • Staff Engagement: Directly supervise program participants and volunteers; plan and direct staff work per EEC/QRIS standards.
  • Membership Engagement: Build family relationships, resolve inquiries, and help recruit new families.
  • Facility Management: Keep program facilities and equipment safe, clean, and well maintained.
  • Volunteer Development: Engage volunteers.
  • Community Involvement: Support YMCA fundraising activities and events.

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, with a high school diploma or GED plus 6+ months of experience working with school-age children.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree a plus, with 3+ months of experience working with school-age children.
  • Reliable transportation required, comfortable and able to work across more than one location as needed.
  • Must pass background check: EEC background check including fingerprinting.
  • Knowledge of EEC regulations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with staff, children, families, and volunteers; positive, professional approach to family needs.
  • EEC Professional Development requirements; PQ Registry current; CPR/First Aid (provided), Child Protection, and Employee Safety training upon hire.

Physical Demands:
  • This role requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 lbs, and actively engage in activities such as climbing, running, and outdoor play.

Salary and Benefits:
  • $18.00-$20.00 per hour.
  • Sick time accrual: 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Locations & Shift Times:
  • Part-time, AM, PM or Split shift. Grades K-5 and at SSCPS, Grades K-8.
  • Before School 6:45 - 9:00 AM; After School 2:45 - 6:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
  • Norwell: Vinal Elementary, Cole Elementary, South Shore Charter Public School.
  • Scituate: Wampatuck Elementary, Jenkins Elementary.
