Job description

The Paraprofessional is responsible for assisting teachers in providing instructional support and classroom management. This role involves working closely with students to support their academic and social development, implementing lesson plans, and maintaining a positive learning environment. The Paraprofessional supports the teacher in delivering educational programs and ensuring the well-being of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

  • Assist teachers in delivering instructional activities and lessons to students.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and resources for classroom activities.
  • Support students with special needs by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations.

Classroom Management:

  • Help maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Assist in managing student behavior and implementing classroom rules and procedures.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and breaks.

Student Support:

  • Provide academic assistance to students, including tutoring and homework help.
  • Support students' social and emotional development by fostering positive interactions and relationships.
  • Monitor students' progress and communicate any concerns to the teacher.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to support student learning and development.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate on strategies to support student success.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students' progress and needs.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Assist with record-keeping, including attendance, grades, and other student data.
  • Help organize and maintain classroom materials and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • Successful passing of ParaPro test if no higher degree aquired
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Basic proficiency in the use of technology for educational and administrative purposes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move freely for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift and move educational materials and supplies as necessary.
  • Ability to supervise and interact with students in a variety of settings.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a classroom setting and may require traveling between classrooms and schools.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for school events and meetings.
