Sistema Elementary Homework Mentor Job Description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic individual passionate about teaching for our after-school music program. Sistema Utah is partnered with American Preparatory Academy to offer music classes for free to under-resourced students. Patterned after the El Sistema movement that originated in Venezuela, it is our hope to empower our students for social change.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Mentors assist elementary grades (2-6) students with most subjects in an after-school classroom setting.
  • There are three periods daily, each 40 minutes in duration.
  • Paid training begins Monday, August 12th, and the job goes through the end of May.
  • Hours (Part-Time): M, T, F 3:15 pm-7:00 pm; W, Th 2:15 pm-6:00 pm

Education/Experience:

  • Proficiency in writing, math, and Google applications (docs, sheets, forms, etc.)
  • Bi-lingual preferred but not required
  • Reliability, punctuality, and patience
  • Effective communication skills
  • Effective study skills and techniques
  • Education: High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Pay $14-17/hr. DOE
  • Expected hours: No more than 18.75 per week
