Job description

Job Summary

Beacon, Inc. is seeking a full-time (40 hours, 5 days per week) Street Outreach Caseworker to provide housing-focused case management for street-homeless individuals and families.

Responsibilities include: (1) Locating, identifying, and building relationships with un-sheltered homeless people; (2) engaging them for the purpose of providing immediate support, intervention, and connections with homeless assistance programs and/or mainstream social services & housing programs; (3) conducting housing search placement activities (4) being responsible for the documentation of all service activities, as defined by Beacon’s procedures and policies and the requirements of all applicable grants; and (5) collaboratively working with the Bloomington Police Department's Downtown Resource Officer Program. Some transportation of clients required.

This person must be actively antiracist and openly supportive of LBGTQ+ people.

Essential skills include a passion for helping people experiencing homelessness, ability to work independently and maintain professionalism, demonstrated excellence in establishing trusting relationships and building rapport, conflict resolution skills, and communication skills. Must be comfortable with being outdoors, navigating uneven terrain, lifting up to 50lbs and working in inclement weather. Proficiency with computers and ability to balance multiple priorities is also essential.

Required: Bachelor's degree in a human services field, one year of related experience, and a valid driver’s license.
