What is home sitting?

Home sitting is a service where a person, known as a home sitter, temporarily takes care of someone else's home while the owners are away. Duties often include basic household maintenance, collecting mail, watering plants, feeding pets, and ensuring the property remains secure. Home sitting provides peace of mind for homeowners, as their property is kept occupied and maintained, which can help deter burglaries and prevent issues from going unnoticed. Many home sitters also offer pet care as part of their services. This arrangement can be beneficial for both homeowners seeking reliable care and for sitters looking for a place to stay.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home sitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Sitter, you need reliability, trustworthiness, attention to detail, and basic home maintenance knowledge, though formal qualifications are often not required. Familiarity with alarm systems, smart home technology, and security protocols is beneficial. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help you manage responsibilities and respond to unexpected situations. These abilities ensure the homeowner's property is secure, well-maintained, and that any issues are addressed promptly during their absence.

What are some common challenges faced by home sitters and how can they be addressed?

Home sitters often encounter challenges such as managing unexpected maintenance issues, adapting to different home environments, and ensuring clear communication with homeowners. It's important to stay organized by keeping detailed notes and instructions provided by the homeowner, and having a list of emergency contacts readily available. Proactively communicating updates and any concerns to the homeowner helps build trust and ensures a smooth experience for both parties.

What is the difference between Home Sitting vs Pet Sitting?

Home Sitting involves caring for a client's home, often including tasks like security and maintenance, while Pet Sitting focuses on caring for animals. Both roles are performed in the client's home but differ mainly in responsibilities and certifications required. Understanding these differences helps clients find the right service for their needs.

Do you get paid for home sitting?

Home sitting jobs can be paid or unpaid depending on the arrangement. Paid positions typically offer compensation for caring for the home and pets, while some may be volunteer opportunities or part of house exchanges. It is important to clarify payment terms before accepting a home sitting assignment.

Job description

Want to get paid for tail wags and puppy kisses?
We thought so.
Are you the friend people call because they know they can count on you?
The one who follows through, notices the little details, and treats other people's homes and pets with the same care you would your own?
If that sounds like YOU Wonder Pups Pet Care is looking for another dependable animal lover to join our award-winning team of professional pet sitters serving Crestview, Florida.
If you're looking for meaningful part-time work that keeps you active and lets you make a real difference for pets and the people who love them, you may have just found your Wonder.
This isn't your typical part-time job. Instead of spending your day under fluorescent lights staring at a clock, you'll travel throughout Crestview caring for pets in the comfort of their own homes while their families work or travel.
What You'll Be Responsible For
As a Wonder Sitter, you'll bring peace of mind to local families whether they are spending the day out or traveling for knowing everything back home is being cared for. On any given day, you'll be responsible for:
  • Maintaining the safety and security of Wonder families' homes and pets
  • Providing exercise, meals, fresh water, medications (when needed), and plenty of love
  • Walking dogs and cleaning litter boxes or other pet-related messes
  • Sending detailed visit updates and adorable photos through our app
  • Watching for changes in a pet's health, behavior, or routine
  • Delivering outstanding customer service to both pets and their humans

Love for all creatures great and small is absolutely essential... but so is reliability. Our clients trust us with their homes, their pets, and often their vacation plans. They're counting on us to show up when we say we will, notice the little things, and care for their pets as if they were our own.
What You'll Need
  • A positive attitude
  • A highschool diploma or GED
  • A clean background check
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license
  • A smartphone with an active data plan
  • The physical ability to walk roughly a mile with a happy pup
  • The ability to handle excited, sometimes large, animals jumping or barking to say hello
  • The compassion to work with special needs animals
  • The ability to walk, bend, reach, climb stairs, and lift at least 15 pounds
  • The ability to work independently and follow written instructions
  • Availability during breakfast, dinner, and bedtime visit windows three to five days each week, including weekends and some major holidays (don't worry... you'll still have flexibility and time off!)
What the Schedule Looks Like
Wonder Pups doesn't operate like a traditional shift-based job. Our schedules follow our clients' travel plans, so no two weeks look exactly alike.
Most visits happen during breakfast, dinner, and bedtime visit windows, with midday visits added as client demand requires. Wonder Team members are typically available three to five days each week, including weekends and some major holidays. These are separate work periods rather than one continuous shift, so you'll have plenty of time between visit windows to go home, run errands, grab lunch, or simply recharge before heading back out. Loads of flexibility built in!
This is an hourly, part-time position. Wonder Team members earn around $300 per week or more, plus tips, depending on availability and client demand. Experience is not required. We'll happily train the right person who shares our values and is a great fit for the team.
If this sounds WONDERful... quit pawsing and apply today. We'd love to meet you.
Pssst!
