What is a home infusion nurse?

A home infusion nurse is a registered nurse who specializes in administering medications, fluids, or nutrition intravenously to patients in their homes. These nurses work with patients who need ongoing treatments such as antibiotics, chemotherapy, pain management, or hydration therapy outside of a hospital setting. Home infusion nurses are responsible for monitoring patient responses, educating patients and caregivers, and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the infusion process. They play a vital role in helping patients manage their health conditions comfortably at home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home infusion nurse?

To thrive as a Home Infusion Nurse, you need strong clinical skills in intravenous therapy, medication administration, and patient assessment, typically supported by an RN license and relevant experience. Familiarity with infusion pumps, electronic health records (EHRs), and certification in infusion therapy (such as CRNI) are commonly required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and independence are important soft skills for delivering care in patient homes. These competencies ensure safe, effective treatment and build trust while working autonomously in diverse environments.

What are the typical challenges faced by home infusion nurses, and how are they addressed on the job?

Home Infusion nurses often encounter challenges such as working independently in varied home settings, managing complex medical equipment, and ensuring patient safety outside a clinical environment. To address these, nurses receive thorough training in troubleshooting infusion devices, infection control, and emergency protocols. They also maintain close communication with physicians, pharmacists, and the broader healthcare team to coordinate care and resolve issues promptly. Regular documentation and use of telehealth support further enhance patient outcomes and nurse confidence in the field.

Job description

We're looking to connect with Per Diem Home Infusion Nurses who want their work to mean something - Registered Nurses who bring clinical expertise, independence, and compassion to every visit.

Why This Role Matters

Home infusion nursing requires skill, judgment, and trust. As a Per Diem Home Infusion Nurse at LUX Infusion, you are often the primary clinical presence in a patient's care - delivering therapy, education, and reassurance.

In this role, you'll contribute to work that:

  • Helps patients receive infusion therapies safely at home or in infusion suites
  • Supports continuity of care outside traditional clinical settings
  • Builds confidence for patients and caregivers through clear education and calm communication
  • Advances a patientfirst, clinicianled approach to infusion care

Your work ensures patients can continue treatment with dignity, safety, and peace of mind.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Administer, monitor, and discontinue intravenous therapies in patient homes or infusion suite settings
  • Insert and manage IV access including peripheral lines, PICC lines, ports, and midlines
  • Monitor patients throughout infusion therapy, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or changes in condition
  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood samples as ordered
  • Complete patient assessments, vital signs, and reviews of systems during each visit
  • Provide individualized education to patients and caregivers on infusion therapy, line care, and symptom monitoring
  • Coordinate visit schedules, staffing needs, and communication with internal teams and external partners
  • Accurately document all patientrelated care, medications administered, and patient responses
  • Communicate clinical concerns or reportable events promptly to physicians and internal clinical leadership
  • Uphold all confidentiality, compliance, and ethical standards in accordance with state and federal regulations

What We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you bring:

  • Strong clinical judgment and confidence working independently in homebased environments
  • Clear, compassionate communication with patients and caregivers
  • Comfort managing IV therapy outside acute care settings
  • Strong organization, flexibility, and attention to detail
  • A patientcentered mindset grounded in empathy and professionalism

Required Qualifications

  • Nursing degree from an accredited college or university
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida
  • Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience
  • IV certification with experience in central line care and management
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within service territory
  • CPR certification
  • Experience with clinical documentation and care coordination
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical systems
  • Willingness to travel to patient homes and healthcare facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • RN licensure in additional states
  • Prior experience in home infusion, home care, critical care, emergency nursing, ambulatory infusion centers, or discharge planning
  • Experience with PICC, port, or midline access and certification

You don't need to check every box - we care just as much about how you care for patients as your background.
