WHEDco’s Home-Based Child Care (HBCC) Program is a comprehensive initiative focused on expanding the availability of high-quality, home-based child care and strengthening the child care workforce across New York City. The program supports individuals—primarily women—in launching, managing, and sustaining successful child care businesses from their homes, while promoting high-quality, developmentally supportive care for children.

Key components of HBCC include:

  • Professional Development & Training delivered through the HBCC Training Institute.
  • Technical Assistance & Coaching using WHEDco’s Childcare Home Assessment and Support Tool (CHAST).
  • Provider Network Support for DOE-contracted Birth-to-Three Family Child Care providers.
  • Support for Legally-Exempt Providers through enrollment processing, home visits, and licensing assistance.
  • Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Sponsorship serving more than 300 providers annually.

Job Summary:


WHEDco seeks a dynamic, mission-driven leader to serve as the Director of Professional Development and Coaching Services for the Home-Based Child Care Program. The Director will oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of WHEDco’s provider training, technical assistance, and coaching services. This role ensures that home-based child care providers receive the support, tools, and guidance necessary to deliver high-quality care and to build strong, sustainable child care businesses. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, strategic thinker with deep knowledge of early childhood education, staff supervision, and professional development best practices.


Responsibilities:

  • Review and improve training offerings by analyzing attendance, provider needs, and readiness for online learning.
  • Develop a monthly calendar of in-person and online trainings and design new trainings and webinars as needed.
  • Create online trainings and track provider participation, completion, and engagement.
  • Lead the design and delivery of coaching and technical assistance that align with program goals and quality standards.
  • Supervise and mentor home visitors and training staff in assessment tools and individualized service planning.
  • Review assessments, case notes, and service plans for accuracy, quality, and timely follow-up.
  • Facilitate bilingual professional development workshops, technical assistance, and individualized coaching.
  • Hold regular provider meetings or roundtables to share updates and support continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen provider engagement across all service areas and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate participant records, assessments, and training documentation.
  • Support reporting requirements and contribute to program evaluation and self-assessment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support integrated service delivery when appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., early childhood, education, educational administration, social services) is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in early childhood settings (special education or general education), childcare home visitor, professional development coach, or childcare, including supervisory experience, is required.
  • Currently possess or eligible for NYS trainer and/or coaching credentials (T-TAP)
  • Experience with home-based child care or family engagement
  • Profile in the Aspire Registry, New York’s early childhood workforce registry
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to facilitate workshops and trainings in English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing and facilitating group learning for adults, informed by knowledge of and experience in adult learning theory
  • Ability to build relationships with and motivate stakeholders with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
  • Experience in MS Office suite (including Excel and PowerPoint) and excellent overall computer and database skills.
  • Experience creating presentations and marketing materials.
  • Proven ability and/or demonstrated work experience where maintaining confidentiality is critical and expected.
  • Ability to conduct home visits as needed to facilitate coaching
  • Available evenings and weekends, as needed, to facilitate sessions
