 About the Role 

As the Community-Based Education Instructor you'll be responsible for facilitating meaningful educational experiences for adults in a supportive and engaging environment. This role involves working collaboratively with individuals to promote personal growth, independence, and community engagement through various activities and outings. The instructor will ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all participants while fostering positive relationships and communication. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in field related to the field of special education or equivalent experience.   
  • Good written and spoken communication, public relations, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Able to use computer programs and other software related to the classroom.  
  • Management and administrative skills to organize and execute programs.  
  • Consistently reliable and dependable. 
  • Must be able to drive 12-14 passenger vans under the WOW insurance requirements.  



What You’ll Do


Health, Safety, and Record Keeping 

  • Assure the health, safety, and welfare of individuals at all times at The WOW Center and during community trips. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all individuals in the program, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. 
  • Complete required documentation including quarterly and annual reports, wellness assessments, and grant-related paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Ensure all documentation meets internal standards and external compliance requirements. 


 Classroom Environment and Instructional Planning 

  • Establish a positive classroom environment and routines that facilitate learning and foster interpersonal relationships. 
  • Develop and implement instructional plans to teach knowledge and skills aimed at promoting higher levels of independence in participants’ households and communities. 
  • Assess individual needs and provide guidance to facilitate participation in program activities, tailoring approaches to fit various group settings (both one-on-one and group). 

 Activity Development and Community Engagement 

  • Create pre- and post-trip activities that enhance communication, emotional expression, physical and cognitive skills, self-awareness, and personal growth. 
  • Collaborate with your classroom partner to create a monthly calendar of community outings and activities, ensuring a diverse range of options that align with participants' interests. 
  • Research and identify new locations for community field trips, negotiating pricing and logistics as needed. 

Individual Goals 

  • Collaborate with homeroom Instructors providing insights and feedback regarding individual progress and needs. 
  • Ensure individual tracking sheets are updated to match individuals’ progress in their homerooms.  

Transportation and Documentation 

  • Drive individuals to various community locations, ensuring safe and comfortable transportation. 
  • Maintain mileage and necessary documentation for transportation, ensuring all trips are logged accurately. 
  • Keep vans clean, inside and out.  

Collaboration and Communication 

  • Collaborate with other The WOW Center employees to execute special activities and events throughout the year. 
  • Provide regular feedback to social services staff regarding participants’ progress, behavioral health, and safety concerns. 
  • Create and distribute monthly activity calendars, highlighting upcoming outings and events. 
  • Facilitate discussions with participants regarding their choices for upcoming activities and outings each month. 
  • Prepare and send memos to families regarding upcoming activities, participant progress, and any relevant updates.
