Materials Librarian: Part-Time, San Francisco


Company Description Librarians by Design specializes in managing libraries for architecture and design (A+D) companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, supporting the flow of information and inspiration across design teams. The organization focuses on building and maintaining materials libraries that connect designers with vendors and manufacturers. These libraries are curated to be both practical reference resources and creative spaces that spark new ideas.


Role Description The Materials Librarian is a part-time, on-site role based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role is responsible for organizing and maintaining physical material libraries for A+D clients, ensuring that samples and product information are current, accessible, and accurately represented. Day-to-day tasks include managing metadata for materials, coordinating with designers to understand project needs, and liaising with vendors and manufacturers to update and expand library collections. The Materials Librarian provides guidance and informal instruction to design teams on how to locate and use library resources effectively, and may assist with creating displays or themed collections that support design inspiration. The role also involves maintaining orderly library spaces, implementing library policies, and supporting overall library operations for multiple client locations as needed.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Familiarity with architecture and design materials and A+D industry products and trends.
